A Blog for My Daughter

Words from a Mother

So today is day 4 of being in the helmet for 23 hours. And she’s still doing really well. I think we are now just waiting for growth as the helmet seems to be a non-issue for the most part. Nursing away from home still sucks as it digs into my arm and she gets distracted so easily she sandpapers me with the Velcro (and the headbuts). But we will continue to work on it.

And we saw Michelle today for more PT. She said that if she didn’t know it, it would be hard to tell which side Kahlan was tight on. That was awesome to hear. She has come so far from where she was. And SO close to sitting up on her own.
So now that we are set in the helmet, I’m starting to try to work on one of my issues. Which is messiness while eating. I don’t know why, as I’m not a neat freak, but kahlan getting messy while eating frustrates the crap out of me. Meal times are so stressful because I’m always chasing her with a rag and just getting upset. I know that she’s learning, and the only way to learn is to do it on your own and that this will lead to messes. But it kills me.
So today we had oatmeal for breakfast. And I tried preloading the spoon. She would take the spoon and scrape it off and shove it in her mouth while banging the spoon. I was starting to get frustrated and I don’t know why. So I just did it. I dumped the bowl of oatmeal on her tray and let her have at it. And as much as my toes curled. She had fun, ate a lot of it and learned as well. But yeah, she really had a lot of fun. Lots of smiles. Which of course means lots of pictures.
